Diana loved her car. It was a simple fact that wasn't hard to grasp. At first, when her father insisted on getting her a brand-new car for her sweet 16, she had been opposed. Diana never really liked to admit that her family was well off, and could afford most cars on the market. So the idea of getting a brand-new car for her birthday didn't go along smoothly at first. Until she saw it. Bright red, her car was a dream. But the most important thing was that it was a hybrid, letting Dee reflect her concern for high gas prices and air pollution in her vehical. She kept the inside of her car perfectly clean, for the most part, but it was littered with accessories, like sunglasses on the dash and a rosary hanging from the rear view mirror. Her worn bookbag lay forgotton the the floor in the backseat, and a duffle bag sat quietly in the very back. Like her phone, her car was very personal to her, filled with the scent of familiarity. The new car scent had been driven out by the very smell of her soap and shampoo, as well as the few scents of her mum and dad.
Diana's purse lay in the front seat as she sat in her car, trying to get warm. She ran a comb through her perfectly straightened hair, before pulling it into a side pony tail. She applied a little make-up, but not much aside from bronzer and blush. She wore a shirred button sweater top, a pair of dark skinny jeans with her brown, strap slouch boots. Whether she would own up to it or not, she looked cute. And just in case, she kept a tight black hoodie from her old school in the back seat as well.
Diana was actually nervous for her day with Clark. Though they had texted a few times, and talked on the phone twice (he had gotten lost going to the student office again), they hadn't spent more than an hour or so in each other's presence. Diana felt like they had spent more time together however. But today would be interesting, she could say that. She took a few calming breaths, and recited a few lines from a random play she had been in, turning up her music. Her car had warmed up nicely, so now all she had to do was wait for Clark. Clark. Her crush. Dee felt so young thinking of him this way, as a crush. She fancied him, she really did. Maybe he felt the same way? He had asked to take her out, even if she was the one driving. The boy slowly started to fill up her thoughts, and she was startled to get a text message.
I'm here. where are you?
Diana smiled, her stomach flipping. She looked up, and sure enough, there he was, standing on the curb. She pushed the power button, and put her Prius into reverse. Pulling out of the parking space, she backed out until she knew that when she went forward, she wouldn't hit another car. She finally pulled up right next to Clark, so that the passenger side was to him. She rolled down the window, leaning so that she could see him. "Need a ride?" She asked, poking her tongue out at him. "Maybe we're heading the same way."
